Wiring Test Procedures
To quickly
check a Wire for Resistance we recommend the following: |
|
Testing a Circuit or Wire for Resistance
Measuring OHMS " "
A Meter:
-
Sends a
voltage from its own power (battery) into the connected
circuit.
-
Measures
exactly how much the voltage is reduced by
resistance in the circuit under test.
-
Then
calculates and displays the OHMS of resistance in the
circuit.
WARNING:
The circuit being tested MUST be OFF with
NO VOLTAGE PRESENT!
1. Turn the rotary function switch to
the " " position to measure
resistance.
2. Connect the test leads across the circuit or wire to be
tested.
3a. Some meters have an autorange feature which will
determine the most appropriate
scale for OHMS display -
" " (OHMS),
"K " (Thousands of OHMS),
"M " (Millions of OHMS).
3b. The operator can manually select the scale by
pressing the "RANGE" button.

Audible Continuity
An Audible
Continuity feature allows the operator to do a quick
resistance test without looking at the display panel.
WARNING:
The circuit being tested MUST be OFF with
NO VOLTAGE PRESENT!
-
Set meter to Audible Continuity test.
-
Connect test leads to circuit being
tested.
- If resistance is under a predetermined amount (may
vary from meter to meter, typically under 100 ohms) the
Audible Tone will sound, confirming Continuity.
